It’s All About What You Wear

March 23, 2017

First impressions are paramount in this world. How we present ourselves says a lot about us as a person. What we wear communicates to others what kind of person they’ll be dealing with.

It’s the same with book covers. First impressions matter. In fact they matter so much, that people will literally judge a book by its cover. I’ve done it countless times. Blame it on being a millennial if you will, but to me and for most readers out there an eye catching, engaging cover is what separates me from even pausing to look at a book let-alone buying it.

I will say this, for most readers once an author has hooked them, a reader mostly doesn’t care about the book cover. To get hooked? Get a great cover!

For me, as a unpublished writer one of my main goals is to first have a awesome, polished story and then have a great cover to go with it. I don’t know if my future is in traditional published or self-publishing, but regardless I want to put my best foot forward and give my book everything is deserves.

So I thought I’d share some of my favourite book covers. I decided to share two contemporary covers and two historical. Also, two from Australia.

Book covers are art, so these won’t appeal to everyone but for me these four books jump out at me and scream “read me!”

I’ll be focusing on romance covers as that is my genre.

What makes a cover call your name? I’d love to hear about it.

Thanks for featuring The Currency Lass. I was thrilled when I saw the cover for the first time, especially as it has gold foil writing 🙂 I’m such a cover hound. I hadn’t see Against the Tide. I’m off to check it out! My current favourite is The Birman’s Wife. I went and bought the hardcover copy, because of the cover. Mind you the book’s excellent, too!

Covers fascinate me. It’s always a hold-your-breath moment when the publisher sends the cover comp for a new novel. Blue Moon Bay was a cover I liked at first sight. 😉

Hi Lisa, Blue Moon Bay’s cover has been my top favourite now for many years. I always just want to be right where the girl on the cover is. Thanks for dropping by.
